SanDisk Extreme Pro SSD Data Recovery Services

Why Are SanDisk Extreme Pro SSDs Failing?

Simply put; they're made like crap. Attingo's photos tell the story. Sandisk has never taken accountability for the horrific manufacturing on these SSDs and should not be trusted until they take accountability. Thank you to Markus Häfele for his exceptional work in detailing the horrific quality of these products so consumers know to avoid them!

Why Are SanDisk Extreme Pro SSDs so popular?

Once vendors realized these drives were ticking time bombs they put them on sale to get rid of them.

Affiliate marketing allows news sites & blogs to make money each time a customer buys something they advertised on their blog. When the prices were lowered, many unethical blogs & news websites started promoting these defective products to make affiliate revenue.

Example: CNET, Cult of Mac,The Inventory. The Inventory published their suggestion months after numerous lawsuits came out against Sandisk for this class of products, and Cult of Mac's Ed Hardy admits he didn't even use the device in his recommendation!!

"I haven’t tested the SanDisk 4TB Extreme Portable SSD, but I have used many SanDisk products over the decades. The company built a reputation for quality products that, in my experience, it deserves."

Oftentimes, the tech press is not only not your friend; they are your enemy, actively profiting by recommending you junk if they'll get a few bucks of affiliate revenue out of it. I am sorry they did this to you; and I am sorry you're paying the price for it.

How Sandisk Extreme Pro drives die:

SanDisk Extreme Pro and related models, such as the SanDisk Extreme Portable and WD My Passport SSDs, have been reported to experience sudden failure, such as:

  • Data Wiping Without Warning: Drives may erase all stored data without rhyme or reason, making the SSD unreadable.
  • File System Corruption: Operating systems fail to recognize the drive, & data management tools like disk utility report unallocated or unformatted partitions
  • Hardware Design Flaws: Engineering issues, such as oversized components and weak soldering, can cause physical disconnections on the board, leading to intermittent or total failures.

Models in the SanDisk Extreme Pro SSD Family

Failures have been found in the following models:

  • SanDisk Extreme Portable (SDSSDE61 Series):
    • SDSSDE61-4T00 (4TB)
    • SDSSDE61-2T00 (2TB)
  • SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable (SDSSDE81 Series):
    • SDSSDE81-4T00 (4TB)
    • SDSSDE81-2T00 (2TB)
    • SDSSDE81-1T00 (1TB)

Why Choose Rossmann Repair Group?

  • Highly experienced Circuit Board Repair: The issues facing the Sandisk Extreme Portable SSD are often physical hardware issues. We've specialized in circuit board repair for a decade before we set up our data recovery lab, so our technicians are well equipped to this specific type of data recovery.
  • Industry-Leading Tools: The PC3000 Portable PRO tool is the cream of the crop when it comes to data recovery technology, enabling success where others fail.
  • Expert Knowledge: Our technicians are highly experienced in dealing with the challenges inherent in recovering these SSDs, ensuring the best chance of retrieving your data.
  • Techs who live, eat, breathe data recovery: When 6:59 PM strikes the clock, we're not running to our cars to go home. Chris' nose is buried in a book or a microscope working on some random drive - even if it's one of his own, just to learn more. This isn't a job for us; it's a livelihood! We love what we do & we love learning more. This will make itself clear in every element of the interaction.

Challenges in Recovering Data From SanDisk Extreme Pro SSDs

Recovering data from these drives requires advanced expertise due to several key factors:

  • Firmware Complexity: Faulty firmware can cause the SSD to disconnect randomly or fail to initialize entirely. This requires precise firmware manipulation and updates during recovery.
  • Hardware Weaknesses: Physical design flaws like poorly soldered components and inadequate epoxy reinforcement lead to broken solder joints. These defects require micro-soldering repairs that not all data recovery facilities have.
  • Encrypted File Systems: Many of these drives use hardware encryption. If the drive becomes unresponsive, recovering encrypted data involves decrypting key sectors which can require expensive proprietary tools and expertise.

What Sets Rossmann Repair Group Apart?

At Rossmann Repair Group, we offer unmatched expertise in recovering data from SanDisk Extreme Pro SSDs:

  • Cutting-Edge Tools: Our lab is equipped with the latest recovery tools, including PC-3000 and micro-soldering stations, to address both software and hardware failures.
  • Firmware Recovery: We use specialized equipment to repair or bypass corrupted firmware, restoring access to the drive.
  • Experienced Team: Our technicians are highly skilled in recovering encrypted and unencrypted data from severely damaged drives.
  • Proven Success: We’ve recovered data from many SanDisk SSDs, even in cases where others said recovery was impossible.

5 star ratingThese guys deserve TEN stars. My mother's Mac Air died on a vacation to NYC. Well, we thought it died. Her bag was lost at JFK and the charger was packed (dumb, yes, but there was a major snowstorm and she slept not at all waiting to find out whether or not her flight was canceled). She had important files not backed up. Yes, dumb. But she's 78 and a lawyer 52 years. A lawyer with secretaries who used to do all that stuff. And she is not computer-savvy beyond the bare minimum needed to email and compose documents. She bought a charger at UES Apple (the one on Madison in the 70s). The computer would not charge above 1%. My friend in IT recommended this place. He says it is the ONLY place other than Apple he will allow to touch his many devices, as an Apple consumer since the 1980s. I called Rossman at noon, from the March For Our Lives, and they said they would take a look at it. But before that, I emailed. Sure enough, there was an email back to my mother (she didn't see it). I told them my friend thought the port was corroded and that might be why it would not (the light) turn green or orange. So I trek back to the UES from the UWS to retrieve the computer. Trains a mess. Two hours later I arrived at Rossman and found three others waiting in the tiny store. It's not that small but typical for the area, narrow storefront and a deep space with workspace in the rear. The man took the computer and then charged with his own charger. Voila! All that stress and it turns out the computer is FINE but that Apple sold us a defective charger. Mom never tested it in the store, having no reason to believe Apple would sell a lemon. (Yuk yuk.) The man (whose name I wish I had asked for as we hung out over an hour) transferred her hard drive onto a little metal thing for 40 bucks. Also, Mom's machine is in very good shape, though she needs a new battery at some point. He does not recommend that she buys a new Air, which she was prepared to do. Otherwise, her device is healthy. Quite remarkable for a 2012 that gets heavy usage. Even at work, she uses her Air not a desktop at the firm. We then talked a lot about old vs new Airs and MacBook Pros. My Pro is from 2015, November. He says NEVER to get rid of this device, just to fix it when it gets old, and that the new MacBook Pros suck. He even expects a class action suit to arise as a result of the hybrid of solid state and movable parts. The new Airs are also not great. If they die and you haven't backed anything up, you are screwed. There is NO WAY to retrieve files without making the machine functional. That's because there is no removable hard drive. He's not impressed with the new products and says the best Pro eve made is the one I own (a gift from a dear friend who knew my 2011 MacBook Pro was on last legs). I am a customer for life and when my 2015 Pro begins to age, I'm taking it here. They also sell refurbished Mac Air/Pro and I would trust anything they had fixed and deemed fit to sell. Everyone is so nice. A lot of people came in and the Saturday hours were 12 to 4. A frazzled young woman came in at 4:10 pm and asked if they were closed. "Yes and no," my repairman told her. I love this place and encourage all Apple people to patronize them. The juice place down the street is quite good (a few doors down) and the prices lower than Juice Press and the like (except for the Acai bowls). But they don't have real milk. Just that soy/almond garbage. It's not far from Veselka and the Immigrant Bar. And St. Marks. THANK YOU, ROSSMAN!

This is literally the first review I've ever written, and these guys absolutely deserve it. I had a hard drive fail after it was connected to a bad power supply and fried itself. I basically lost 6+ months of work and was devastated. I sent the drive Rossmann Repair and they managed to recover all of the data I lost, and sent it to me on a new 1tb external drive. Also important to note: when I sent the drive in the company was in the process of moving to a new store location. Because it took a couple weeks extra for them to get to my drive, they waived the cost of the 1tb external my data was copied onto which was SO nice of them. I am so incredibly thankful, and would highly suggest going through Rossmann Repair if you need an affordable alternative to something like Drive Savers. Again, thanks guys. You rock.

5 star ratingI was referred to Rossmann Repair Group by a friend whose dad swears by the shop. After my Macbook Pro crashed and Mikey's Hookup in Brooklyn quoted me $511 to fix it and recover my data (plus a $90 diagnostic fee), I was desperate for a second opinion. Enter: Rossman Repair Group, who was able to get the job done for $250. What's more, the guys accidentally fixed my computer without first sending me a quote - when they realized this mistake, they graciously offered that I not pay full price for the repair. One of the best customer service experiences I've had in a really long time, ESPECIALLY when it comes to Apple products... I highly recommend them! Thanks Rossmann Repair! My laptop is working great now - you guys are the best!

5 star ratingThese guys are LEGIT! Don't waste your time with anyone else. I had water damage in a newer iphone and had YEARS of pics which were not backed up. I was given a cost and time estimate reflective of what was on their website. Their service exceeded the high-points of both estimates. It was definitely not a drop-in the bucket cost, but worth the service. I was notified 24 hours later that my data recovery was complete. Unfortunately, my phone was not repairable but that didn't matter much to me anyway. Great service with these guys and glad to find them locally as well. If you're not in NYC- they will coordinate with you.

5 star ratingI stumbled on my daughter's 2012 MacBook Pro that she had been told (years ago) was beyond repair. I powered it up and a little research led me to guess that the hard drive was dead or not being seen. So I sent a note with that assumption to Rossman Repair Group. They said it could be the hard drive or it could be the drive cable which is a known issue with this model - $100 to repair if that's what it is. I gambled and paid $13 to ship it. For retail customers, Rossman will diagnose, outline the problem, and provide an estimate for free. They confirmed it was the cable and they needed the OS password to further test the operating system to make sure that it boots (loads to your desktop). I did not have the password so I asked if they could use the password reset? They replied "We wouldn't be able to reset the password, but we can wipe it and reinstall a new OS with a new password if you'd like. The hard drive cable is indeed bad on this device, with a new cable the hard drive does show up."I got it back (free return shipping), since the hard drive now shows up I was able to reset the PW and it looks to be running perfectly! Total repair cost $113.

5 star ratingWhen all others failed, Rossmann did not!!! In January of this year a snow storm knocked out the power at my house and a very important external hard drive of mine was affected. My computer could tell that there was a drive connected but would not read it. All it was doing was making a clicking noise. I made an appointment to a chain electronics and appliance store. They took one look at it, plugged it in, and then handed it back to me telling me that there was nothing to be done to fix it. I made another appointment, this time for a local computer repair company. They had my drive for two weeks but with no luck. They then sent the drive off to a higher repair company that they work with. This company attempted to work on my hard drive for about a month. Eventually, after replacing parts and trying all that they could, they returned it to me, stating that it was lost and could not be recovered. I had given up on the drive. This drive contained all of my photography business back to 2016. Haven't lost so much, I was about to shut down my small business. My wife posted a message to some friends asking if anyone could recommend anything for me. Someone suggested Rossmann. I reached out to them and sent my drive in, not expecting anything but more disappointment. The crew of Rossmann were constantly in touch with me letting me know what was going on with my drive. After some time, they called me to tell me that it would be another month or so because they had to fix whatever the prior company had tried to do. My drive was with them for a few months that I had actually forgotten about it. One rough day at work and just getting home, I received a call from a repair company that was in my phone contacts. I figured it was some construction company wanting to offer me some home remodeling deal. When the guy on the other end told me that they had recovered my hard drive it had completely made my day so much better. I had written it off as a complete loss and Rossmann had saved it all. They set up a time with me to get online and remote connect with them to be able to see my drive in their system and review my files. I was very happy with what I was seeing. They mailed my drive back to me and even contacted me shortly after the delivery date to ensure I got the drive and was happy with it. I couldn't be more pleased. All that was lost was not actually gone and what three other tech companies could not do, Rossmann did!

Brought my 2017 macbook air in today after Apple's "genius" bar told me last week I needed a new logic board. Someone recommended bringing it here to see if they could repair it. I came in thinking I'd pay $250 for a logic board repair but one of the guys working took it apart, cleaned some dirt out of the keyboard/trackpad and sent me on my way(with no charge!!!) Cant believe im writing this on my mac after I almost bought a whole new machine. Wish I had more cash on hand to leave these guys a bigger tip. Well worth the 1.5 hour drive!!! (also appreciate them taking precautions against covid-everyone was wearing masks)

5 star ratingPlace was great! I went in with a clearly injured Mac Book and they told me point blank it wasnt worth fixing, the Mac was opened and diagnosed properly. I recieved my Mac more in tact than when I took itin. 10 minutes was how long I waited to get my answer. I also wasn't charged a diagnosis fee. This was my 2nd opinion. The first place said i need to pay $130 just for them to look at it. Well worth my 30 minute drive into Manhattan. Thanks!!!

Was devastated when my phone completely died and I stupidly did not back up my phone that had tons of photos and videos of my baby and other important memories. Apple insisted there was nothing they could do and insisted I reset my entire phone meaning I would lose all of my data. I sent my phone in to Rossman Repair and they fixed it in one day and I had my phone completely fixed and in my hands with all of my data within one week. I am SO thankful for them and their promptness! Thank you Rossman for giving me my precious memories back!!!

5 star ratingIf I could give this place 10 stars I would. Long story short my wife's macbook pro wouldn't see hard drive. Upon startup all we saw was a blinking file with a question mark. Called apple and made appointment with "genius" bar. They said that hard drive was dead and to take it to a micro center or similar store to try and get my wife's pics and videos (which she NEVER backed up) off of the dead drive. My wife was in tears now because it wasn't even a definite that she could recover them. Pricing for this according to numerous data recovery shops was 500-1500 and like I said it wasn't definite they could get the data. Well went on yelp and saw Rossman repair group which was a 40 minute drive and had 4.5 stars on yelp. Their pricing was tiered according to what had to be done to get the data and started at around 200 bucks so I figured I'd take a ride into the city with the wifey and hope for the best. Upon walking into this little shop a nice young lady asked to see the computer. She started started it up, saw the blinking file and handed it to a gentleman sitting at a work desk right next to her. The guy says might be a cable issue they're known to go bad in these computers. He then opened the computer, hooked up his hard drive and it still didn't work. Cable is bad and NOT HARD DRIVE!!!! Give us about 20 minutes we have these in stock and it will cost 100 bucks plus tax!!!!! OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH !!! went for a nice little dinner right on next block at this great little pizzeria/restaurant while we waited. Got the wifey a nice glass of wine and picked computer up 45 minutes later. THESE GUYS ARE THE BEST !!!!

5 star ratingI'm very satisfied with the data recovery performed by Rossmann Repair. The turnaround time was fast, their cost estimate was fair, and the final amount was well within their estimated amount. Every step of the process was painless and the customer service is excellent. I dealt with exactly *zero* B.S. the entire time. Highly recommended.

5 star ratingI had the pleasure of visiting the Rossmann Repair Group in Austin one day almost two years ago as friends of mine needed an evaluation of a broken Macbook Pro, a bad hard drive and possible data transfer. Louis Rossmann greeted us immediately and was very friendly and patient. He told us exactly what the problem was and said that the Macbook Pro was beyond repair due to bad GPU connections. In fact he saw this as soon as he turned it on, he could detect very faint lines on the screen which indicated this issue. He was very honest about this, he said that some places would get it to work for a while by heating it up and charging a few hundred dollars, but that the repair would not last long and it would certainly fail again.

My friend asked him if he could transfer the data from the Macbook to a Mac Mini so it would work like the Macbook. He said he could and it would take a couple of days. We returned a few days later to pick everything up. The cost was very reasonable and my friends were very satisfied with the service. He gave the bad HD back to us, said it would require sending to a recovery center. Just honest. No ripoffs.

In this tech repair industry, dishonesty is very common since tech people know the average person has no clue about any of this technology and there is almost no chance they would know if they are being fooled or how much the repair is really worth. I know this well since I also do computer and electronics repair and support myself and I know how easy it would be to fool customers left and right! I don't do this and I highly appreciate other tech experts who aren't tempted to profit from people's trust and innocence!

So in summary, if you don't want to get ripped of and lied to, and are looking for a highly competent reliable technician, make sure you go here with your Mac equipment. If you like, you can stop by an Apple Genius bar first for a good laugh, while they give you the wrong diagnosis, quote you an insanely high repair price, and try to convince you to buy a whole new unit.

Finally, if you want to be amazed, look for Louis Rossmann on YouTube and watch some of his videos where he shows exactly how he repairs the "unrepairable" and inspires many others to do their own repairs, start their own repair businesses and with his tireless entrepreneurial positive attitude even motivates disillusioned young students to not give up on school and go to college! (In fact one student said he was about to give up on education but after watching Louis on YouTube he made the decision to enter Med school! Now that's remarkable!)

Louis is such a great guy, that in some cases where the issue is very minor, like a bad cable, he even does the repair for no charge! Try to find anybody who is willing to do anything for no charge these days! (The Genius bar would certainly tell you that your unit has been water damaged, when it wasn't, (maybe was in a humid room which would turn the water indicators red!) and quote you $1000 for a repair that would cost them $7 for the cable)

Louis Rossmann is a hero, one of those rare individuals who make positive contributions to individuals and society every single day. I am pretty sure that anybody who gives him a bad review probably either is part of Apple, or considers Apple to be some kind of religious deity.

Apple should thanks them. Apple should move them to a better location, bigger place and properly give them the tools and resources so that they can be at 110% Cant stand Apple products but it is great to have people that can put sweat and tears to give you top level services even when they are being held down by corporations like Apple. You can rest asure they will try everything to have your Apple product see the light of day again. 100% recommend this place. But I also recommend to stop spend money on Apple if they keep sticking to you. Best place to recover your Data My 2 cents. Salvador Pelaez

5 star ratingI had an iPhone 8 that was totally dead, wouldn't recognize being plugged into a computer or power outlet. The biggest problem was that it hadn't been backed up in a long time and there 5000+ photos and videos of our kids were potentially lost.

I sent it in to RRG and got a call from Kevin (who was the tech who was actually going to be handling my repair). He was great, forthcoming with the plan, and very polite.

Bottom line? Got my phone back with all the data still intact (apps, contacts, photos, videos, settings) working 100%, AND got a flash drive with the photos and videos on it.

Thanks guys!

RRG repaired my laptop in A DAY with a reasonable price and I was so relieved. Weeks later, by laptop is working perfectly. I highly recommend this company for electronic repairs!
